New Delhi: Supreme Court on Monday rejected the Delhi Women's Commission plea demanding a stay on the release of juvenile convict in the Nirbhaya rape case. The apex court held that that there is no provision in law to extend the detention. The convict, now 20, was released on Sunday despite protests lead by the victim's parents, and is currently in the custody of an NGO in Delhi. Appealing against the High Court order, the DCW had contended that no assessment of the state of mind of the juvenile offender had been done before his release.
