Repairs set to roll, train travel thrown off track

Palakkad: Southern Railway officials announced that the track-doubling work on Shornur-Mangalapuram line beginning on Wednesday in Shornur Junction would not drastically affect the running of long distance trains. But schedules of around 40 trains running on this route have either been changed or temporarily halted. Repairs will last for 22 days. To provide trouble-free travel to passengers holding confirmed reservation, railways have arranged for KSRTC buses from Thrissur, Kuttippuram, Ottapalam and Shornur stations. Officials added that though the repair work might cause difficulty now, the doubling will be of immense benefit in the long run.
