Mullapperiyar: No cause for alarm, says Centre

New Delhi: There was no need to worry on the safety of the Mullapperiyar dam for the time being, felt the Centre. The water resources secretary submitted a report on the current situation at the dam on Tuesday which said there was no reason for alarm as of then, since the water level at the dam had come down. The Centre also made it clear that since there was a court order on the issue, they could not intervene. Uma Bharti had assured them that if an urgent situation emerged, the Centre would intervene, said the MPs who met the minister. MPs NK Premachandran and Joyce George gave a notice for privilege motion in the Lok Sabha, but the Speaker denied them permission.
