Excise officer suspended for fake raids and extortion

Thrissur: An excise officer who used to extort money from people by conducting fake raids has been arrested. Senior civil excise officer Mujeeb Rahman was arrested after inquiry on a complaint which accused him of having demanded bribes during inspection. The officer has been suspended from service. Ernakulam native Philip in his complaint said that Rahman extorted money from a group of friends who were consuming liquor in a rented home. Along with Rahman, his accomplices Thrissur natives Dammy Davis and Ranjith were also arrested. These persons used to convey confidential information to Rahman, who would conduct fake searches at the houses.
