Pakistan raises Kashmir issue in UN

New York: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his speech at the UN raked up the Kashmir issue and accused India of fomenting instability in Pakistan. He then went on to propose a four-point “new peace initiative” including demilitarizing Kashmir and Siachen, and formalizing the 2003 ceasefire. Sharif said Muslims are suffering across the world and both Palestine and Kashmir are oppressed by foreign occupation. He called for both countries to respect a 2003 cease-fire on the de facto frontier where there has been an increase in cross-border firing.
