Government silent on missing Rs 9450 crore arrears

Kochi: After the Value Added Tax (VAT) came into effect, nobody knows as to where Rs 9450 crore arrears that has to go into the government kitty has gone. Documents proved that the Rs 9450 arrears is pending after the VAT came into effect in the state. Though an explanation was sought from the Accountant General, the government has not even bothered to file a reply. In 2009 the explanation was sought which till now remained unanswered. The previous LDF government as well as the present UDF government kept their silence on it. This has given way to suspicion that the government is trying to protect the big coprorates who are evading tax.
