SC stays Maran's arrest till 14 Sept; lambasts Centre, CBI

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed the arrest of former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and stayed his arrest till September 14. The apex court lambasted the Centre and CBI, saying the latter was being used to settle political scores. Sc asked, "why is the CBI so keen to arrest Maran for loss of Rs 1 crore to the government, when it has not arrested people in Rs 8000 crore health scam?" Maran approached the SC questioning the Madras High Court verdict which cancelled his interim bail the case which alleged him to have installed a telephone exchange at his own home when he was a minister in the UPA ministry. The Court asked the CBI what the situation that necessitated the custodial interrogation of Maran was.
