Coasts pray for bumper catch as boats leave shores

Kollam: As the trawling ban ended on Friday night, fishermen have started venturing out into the deep sea once again. The last two days saw frantic activity as the fishermen were busy preparing for fishing activities. they were seen repairing their fishing nets and painting their boats as specified by the government. On Friday night, the chain under the Neendakara bridge was untied and fishing began. About 1,500 boats have left the shores from Neendakara. Of these, the smaller boats would return today itself and the bigger boats, after a week. Fishermen and boat owners hope for a good catch of cuttlefish, pink perch (kilimeen) and karikkadi prawns. Catching of baby fish has been banned.
