Mortar shells in Kurukshetra: Kochi Navy to probe

Kochi: It has been confirmed that the mortar shells found near a railway track at Kurukshetra in Haryana belonged to the naval head quarters in Kochi and were meant for use in warships. The shells were sent for examination to Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh in 2012 from armaments depot in Aluva. But the parcel went missing and the Navy wrote to the railway authorities of it several times to no avail. The live shells were found by children playing nearby. The navy authorities consider the loss of the parcel to be a huge lapse in security measures and plan to investigate the issue.
