Trawling Ban comes into effect

Kollam: The 47 day trawling ban imposed by the state government came into effect from Sunday midnight. The boats that went into the sea from Neendakara and Shakathikulangara returned back to shore. Fisheries and Revenue officials were present to ensure that huge chain was tied across the Needakara bridge at 12 midnight-declaring the official trawling ban. It is 27th year since Kerala is imposing trawling ban. For 47 days fisherfolk will be having job. In Kollam alone there are 1300 boats while in the state it is 3700. There are more than one lakh people in the sector in Kerala. State government will give free ration and Rs 2700 from welfare fund.
