Vizhinjam project awarded to Adani Ports

T'puram: The Cabinet has taken a decision to give Adani Group the operational and construction rights of the Vizhinjam port. The Cabinet approved the terms and conditions of the contract put forwarded by a panel headed by the chief secretary. The official announcement will be made only after seeking the permission of the Election Commission due to the Aruvikkara bypoll. The Rs.4,000-crore first phase of the port is to come up near the famed Kovalam beach. It is expected to be completed in three phases, with the first phase to be ready by 2019. Adani Ports was the lone bidder and had sought Rs.1,635 crore as grant for the proposed port project.
