‘Neythal’ cares for endangered sea turtles

Neeleswaram: Thaikadapuram beach again witnessed the caring intervention of Neythal Kadalama Samrakshana Sanghatana, an organisation protecting the highly endangered sea turtle species. Three Hokesbills and a green turtle were released into the sea after their injuries suffered at sea had healed. Two are still undergoing treatment. K Praveen Kumar, Secretary, said that they have saved 24 turtles in the past 15 years. Vets and other experts tend to the injured turtles, victims of trawling nets and age. Range Officer P Vinu says that since it is illegal for civilians to tend these protected species, the association of Social Forestry officials is a must in any such rescue effort.
