Froth ‘n’ fire phenom scares residents

B’luru: After Varthur Lake, residents near Bellandur Lake, close to HMT, too were alarmed at the frothing phenomenon. That turned to panic when froth caught fire through spontaneous combustion. Then it overflowed onto the road piling up to the height of 2 persons, blocking traffic. According to officials of state pollution control board such an incident has never been reported earlier. The piercing stench emanating from the froth gave some people physical unease. The government-appointed body suspects chemical effluents discharged by industries to be the villain of the froth and fire show. Residents are scared that the overflowing water mixed with rains would contaminate their surroundings.
