From vegetables to fish and meat the price of essential commodities are skyrocketing in the state, hitting the common man hard. The main reason pointed out behind the escalating prices is fall in the transportation of goods from other states. Last week witnessed prices of vegetables including beans, cauliflower, tomato, onion shot up. In Ernakulam market daily 20 loads of vegetables used to come from Tamil Nadu which has come down to 15. With the summer rains getting stronger the local vegetables are not coming to the market. A major chunk of vegetables from Tamil Nadu are going to Andhra Pradesh. The shortage of fish has increased its prices, while one kilo chicken costs Rs 190.
