Staging stories of Vaikom Mohammed Basheer

There is a theatre group in Chennai that has embarked upon a journey with Malayalee's favourite writer Vaikom Mohammed Basheer. Giving a theatre rendition to the words of Bypore Sulthan is Perch theatre group, that is getting ready to perform their 50 th play on stage. To overcome the constraints of language, the group has coined in English presenting the play as bilingual. But the group say they have used Malayalam language to keep the simplicity of the work of Basheer. It was in 2004 that Perch first presented a Basheer story on stage. During the birth centenary of Basheer, a play presented by the group entwining many of his stories had won much accolades. The group has presented plays across the country and abroad.
