Cabinet decided to withdraw hike in property tax

T'puram: The cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday decided to withdraw the hiked property tax for houses measuring up to 2000 Sq feet. While briefing the cabinet decision, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said for houses up to 660 sq feet are exempt from paying property tax. The hike was implemented in 2013 April. There was wide protest from all corners of life against the hike. The LDF staged various protests and recently held UDF high power committee to recommend to withdraw the hike. The cabinet also decided to go ahead with Light Metro projects at both Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode cities. The government has also given administrative sanction for this project worth INR 850 crore.
