Chief Secretary sanctions budget for own temporary residence

T'puram: A rough estimate in the possession of ‘Mathrubhumi News’ reveals that the estimate of re. 1.06 crore towards the renovation of the temporary official residence of the Chief secretary was approved by Jiji Thomson himself. Beautification of the lawn itself eats up re. 8 lakh of the officially sanctioned re. 85 lakh, with another re. 15 lakh being spent on the kitchen, and re. 10 lakh on flooring. PWD sources allege that it was the CS himself who included the work in the ‘emergency’ category to avoid public tendering, and gave the interior design contract to private architects, Iyer & Mahesh. Since the estimate has not been fully approved, the scale of opulence has been scaled down.
