Idea to mop up revenue from lottery, returns 'unsold'

T'puram: The State Government's big ticket initiative to mop up revenue from lottery ticket sales is running on a rough path, with a major chunk remaining unsold. A dip in Karunya, Karunya plus and summer bumper have contributed to the present crisis. More than five lakh lottery of Karunya and 9.5 lakh of bumper tickets have returned unsold. Last year, the government was unable to meet the targeted revenue from the lottery sales. The government had expected a revenue of Rs 5500 crore from the sales of lotteries. While, Karunya, revenue from which is used to provide treatment for marginalised in the society, also face a set back due to severe fund crunch.
