Calicut varsity incurs heavy losses in textbook printing

Kozhikode: Calicut varsity boasts of an advanced printing facility, which has plunged into a state of disrepair because of the lopsided policy of the authorities. From an income of re. 1.19 crore in 2006-’07, printing revenues plummeted to re. 28.94 lakh in 2012-’13, resulting in a loss of re. 90.36 lakh. This loss of income is even as small-time publishers with even less reputation minted money as they cornerd the market for exorbitantly price varsity textbooks. To compound woes, texts began to be prescribed from out of syllabus and Board of Studies and Syndicate members belonging to both the fronts outdid each other in getting their own works published.
