Forest Dept. makes power in deep forest; to benefit tribals

From the small waterfalls of Pampar at Karimutty in Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, a Pico Hydro Electric Power Project produces 1 KW electricity making it a model to be replicated in other parts of the state. The forest department is implementing the project with the support of the Energy Management Centre under the Electricity Department. The forest department had to spend just Rs 25,000 for the project, as Rs 1.50 lakh came in as subsidy. With the project a success, the forest department is planning to supply the electricity generated to various tribal homes in the forest. Another Pico project to produce 5 kw power is progressing which will supply electricity to 65 houses in the tribal colony.
