V K Krishnan Asan; the living legend of 'Velan Pattu'

V K Krishnan Asan is one among the last in the living tradition of ‘Velan Pattu’; a ritual form accompanied by song and drum beats. This ritual form which is also known as ‘Parakotty Pattu’ is done so as to keep away all kinds of evil. Krishnan Asan has been for the last 70 years visiting every households of Onnattukara to perform ‘Velan Pattu’ and blessing the people away with holy curses. He has been performing this ritual form since he was 12 and it was from his father and uncle he learned the lessons of ‘Velan Pattu’. Ee Vazhithara features Krishnan Asan; the long forgotten legend.
