Kodungalloor Bhagavathi temple
Kodungaloor, the ancient capital of Kerala, is 35 kms north-west of Ernakulam is a great pilgrim centre today. The Kodungalloor Bhagavathi temple is one of the wealthiest temples in Kerala. The Kodungalloor Bhagavathi temple here attracts thousands of devotees during the Bharani Festival every year. Bharani festival is celebrated in the Kodungalloor Bhagavathi temple in Meenam (March-April) every year.The reigning deity of Kodungalloor, according to legend, is none other than Kannaki-who set fire to the whole city of Madhura to take revenge on the Chera King who put to death her innocent husband. Kannaki left Madhura and settled herself at Kodungalloor, bringing good luck and glory to the people here.
