Parassinikkadavu Snake Park
16 Kms from Kannur, on the way to the Parassinikkadavu Temple,is the Snake Park, the only one of its kind in the state. It is set up by the Visha Chikista Kendra at Pappinisseri, attracts both foreign and domestic tourists. It has been set up for the preservation and conservation of snakes, as most reptile species are on the verge of extinction. About 150 varieties of snakes, including the spectacled cobra, King cobra, Russel Viper, Krait and Pit Viper, are housed in the park.A laboratory to extract venom is proposed here.
The Visha Chikista Kendra offers effective treatment for snake bites . This is the only place, perhaps where Ayurveda and Modern Medicine are effectively combined to treat snake bite victims.
