Kottiyoor
There is a Siva Temple here on the banks of the Bavali River. Thousands of devotees attend the annual 27 day festival during May - June. Famous for the month-long annual festival in May - June, when a temporary structure is built in the forest across the Bavali river. The permanent structure this side of the river is open through out the year. The 'ilaneer attam' (tender coconut offering) and the 'neyyattam' (careened butter offering) are festivals thronged by thousands from all over Malabar. A speciality are the unique bouquets made out of bamboo shoots. The folklore around the temple ascribe the mythological 'Daksha yaga' to Kottiyoor.Kottiyoor offers the nature lover a large variety of wildlife attractions. The Bandipur National Park is around the Kottiyoor forests. There is a large variety of birds and seasonal butterflies. There is also the trekkers' dream hilltop of Palukachipara. The Thirunelli temple in Wayanad, revered as the 'southern Kasi', is only 24 k.m. away from Kottiyoor. Kottiyoor is connected by bus from Thalasseri, Kannur and Mananthavady. The closest railhead is Thalasseri, 60 k.m. away . Police Station - Kelakam.
