Government
Like other states Kerala administration is headed by a Governor, council of ministers headed by the chief minister, and a unicameral 141-member assembly that is elected once in five years. The judiciary, which is independent, is headed by a Chief justice of the High Court. The state comprises 14 districts that have been divided into taluks and villages for revenue administration purposes. The plurality of its faiths and the sheer diversity of the life styles have an unfortunate fallout in unstable governments and the proliferation of parties. The state's experiments with coalition governments have not been happy one so far.
