Bird, animal threat near airports to be taken up

Karippur: The meeting of environmental committee held at Karippur airport on Tuesday decided to initiate an action plan to clear the threat of birds and animals on the runway. For the same, a meeting led by district collector would be called on February 7 which would be attended by representatives from police, health department and from various panchyats.

The meet observed that as many as 13 slaughterhouses near the airport is posing a threat. Birds and animals come to the runway to eat the leftovers from this slaughterhouse. This year there was a loss of Rs 10 crore due to bird hit and Rs 19.5 crore when a civet hit another flight. The meet has decided to give direction to panchayats to scientific restructuring of slaughterhouses. The meet also decided to implement projects under hygiene mission to discard the wastes around the airport.
