
Drought: 65, 762 acres of paddy destroyed

Mangulam: Due to severe drought, paddy cultivation on 65,762 acres of land from 8 districts were destroyed in the state. If the figures of partial paddy destruction too is added, it would go up. Paddy was mostly destroyed in districts of Palakkad, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kasargod, Wayanad, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts. Majority of paddy cultivation in Wayanad district was destroyed, ie. 9254 hectars.
Palakkad 7014.5 hectars, Thrissur 890 hectars, Pathamthitta- 1780 hectars, Malappuram –2127 hectars and Kasargod 240 hectars. In Kottayam and Alappuzha districts, 5000 hectars of paddy was destroyed to salt water seeping in. Apart from paddy, other agriculture products like vegetables, coconut, groundnuts and sugarcane were also destroyed.
