Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) Managing Director and CEO, V Thulasidas today said Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the KIAL project office near Mattanur on December 6.
Talking to newspersons after a meeting of people's representatives to chart the programme of the inauguration here, he said Excise Minister Babu, who is also incharge of Civil Aviation would preside over the function. Mr Thulasidas said the cabinet would pass the final clearance for the works before mid-December to the newly-appointed consultancy, AECOM Asia. The work on the airport will begin from the first quarter of 2013 and completed in 2015.
Mr Thulasidas also said the process of calling fresh tenders for the earthworks and the concreting works would also begin in December. About 25 companies had responded to the previous tender for the earthworks. But only one company was found to be eligible. So, the tender evaluation committee decided to call for fresh tender.
He said the Board of Directors has approved the third phase of land acquisition of 783 acres. Some problems cropped up in this due to fixing the price of the land. This was solved through discussions with the district administration and land owners. The cabinet order would come soon, he added.
This land will be used for the parallel second runway, he said.
