Mullaperiyar: Legal advice to begin study for new dam

Pathanamthitta: The noted lawyer representing Kerala in Mullaperiyar case wanted the state government to intitiate steps to conduct a new study soon. Standing counsel Ramesh Babu forwarded the letter on this to the state government. Earlier, in a discussion with Mullaperiyar cell representatives of Kerala, noted lawyer Hairsh Salwe too put forward the direction.
The final hearing on the case will begin in the SC on February 19. As per the report of higher-level committee which is against the state, the state is in a weak position now. But as the report did not rule out the direction for a new dam completely, there is hope. The state government has not yet began paper works for the study on new dam.
The central government allowed the state to begin study on new dam and the permission was given countering the protest of Tamil Nadu. SC has also not blocked the same and in this Kerala can move ahead smoothly with study .
