Dr Parvathi Basrur passes away

Kochi: Dr Parvathi K Basrur , Malayalee and noted scientist in Canada passed away . She was 82. Parvathi who bagged the highest honor in Canada `Order of Canada' was working as professor emeritus at Basrur Gulf University. Dr Basrur, noted cancer specialist is her husband. Her daughter Dr Sheela died due to cancer in 2008. Another daughter Jyothi is in Canada too. Dr Parvathi is daughter of Ukkaran Nambiyar writer and musician. She reached Canada in 1955 and secured Ph.D from Ontario University. She was the first women professor in Canada.
