Southwest monsoon active over Kerala

Southwest monsoon has been active over Kerala. Rain occurred at many places in Lakshadweep.

Strong onshore winds from northwesterly direction speed occasionally reaching 45 to 55 kmph is likely along and off Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area during next 24 hours.

The chief amounts of rainfall reported in cm are: Vadakara (Kozhikode district) 18, Pattambi and Thrithala (both in Palakkad district) and Piravom (Ernakulam district) 9 each, Kanjirappally and Kozha (both in Kottayam district) 8 each, Kottayam and Vaikom (both in Kottayam district), Haripad (Alappuzha district), Konni (Pathanamthitta district) and Peermade (Idukki district) 7 each.

The other chief amounts of rainfall reports in cm are - Hosdurg (Kasaragod district), Ottappalam (Palakkad district), Perumbavur (Ernakulam district), Mavelikkara (Alappuzha district), Idukki and Munnar (both in Idukki district) 6 each, CIAL Kochi, Kannur, Chengannur, Kayamkulam and Mancompu (all in Alappuzha district), Chalakudy and Vadakkancherry (both in Thrissur district) and Parambikulam (Palakkad district) 5 each, Karipur AP (Malappuram district), Aluva (Ernakulam district) and Quilandy (Kozhikode district) 4 each, Alappuzha and Cherthala (both in Alappuzha district), Kochi AP and Ernakulam South (both in Ernakulam district), Vellanikkara, Kodungallur and Kunnamkulam (Thrissur district), Thiruvalla (Pathanamthitta district), Taliparamba and Thalasserry (both in Kannur district) and Kudulu (Kasaragod district) 3 each, Kozhikode, Kavaratti, Punalur and Aryankavu (both in Kollam district), Thiruvananthapuram AP, Angadippuram, Manjeri and Perinthalmanna (all in Malappuram district), Alathur, Chittur and Kollengode (all in Palakkad district), Kumarakom (Kottayam district) and Mananthavady (Wayanad district) 2 each.

Rain/thundershower will occur at a few places in Kerala and at isolated places in Lakshadweep. (UNI)
