Kannur: A team of Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders led by district unit Secretary C Raveendran visited P Jayrajan, CPI(M) district Secretary, T V Rajesh (MLA) and DYFI state unit Secretary, in the Central jail here today.

The three were arrested and lodged in the prison in connection with the Abdul Shukkoor murder case.

A controversy has erupted within the two parties over CPI leaders'not supporting the CPI(M)called strike on August 2.

CPI(M) Kerala unit Secretary Pinarayi Vijayayan and CPI state unit ecretary Pannyan Raveendran, both belonging to Kannur district, had a misunderstanding following the charge made by the CPI(M).

Mr Vijayan had publicaly criticised CPI for not supporting the hartal following the arrest of Mr Jayarajan.

He also alleged that CPI was supporting the rivals through the political statements against CPI(M) which was facing a crisis.

After visiting the CPI(M) leaders in Jail, Mr Raveendran said they could not make the visit earlier due to other engagements.

Mr Raveendran said he wanted to visit Mr Jayarajan on August 8. But the latter had been to Kozhikode medical hospital for treatment.

To a question about alleged non-cooperation with the hartal on Augsut 2, Mr Raveendran said the CPI(M) had called the hartal without discussing it before with the LDF allies.

LDF convener K P Sahadevan sought the co-operation of the CPI late. (UNI)
