Steps taken to tackle flood affected areas in north Kerala

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said arrangements have been made to send a Central Disaster Management team to the flood affected northern districts of Kerala.
Mr Chandy told reporters here that as soon as he received news about the calamity, he had contacted Defence Minister A K Antony who provided a helicopter to be deployed in the relief operations. Minister of State for Home Mullapally Ramachandran dispatched a disaster management team last night itself.
The quantum of relief and other measures will be discussed at state cabinet meeting tomorrow and the day after.
'A special cabinet meeting on August 9 that was scheduled to discuss the drought like situation in parts of the state on account of scanty monsoon rainfall will take up this issue of flash floods,' he added. (UNI)
