Head of the erstwhile Royal family of Travancore, Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma, will inaugurate Aranmula Vallasadya, a feast to be held at Sree Parthasarathy Temple here tomorrow.
Preparations for Vallasadya during Onam festival was inaugurated by Aranmula MLA K Sivadan Nair by lighting a lamp with the fire brought from the sanctum sanctorum here this morning.
The fire from the lamp was then transferred to the hearths prepared at the temple Oottupura (kitchen complex).
The annual ritualistic feast, Vallasadya, is an important ritualistic offering of a sumptuous feast by the devotees to the presiding deity at the Aranmula temple during the annual Onam festival.
As many as 48 different items of side dishes, fried items, sweets and payasom will be served at this unique ritualistic feast. The feast is given to the crew/rowers of Palliyodam (a unique kind of snake boat considered as the divine vessel of Lord Krishna), taking them as representatives of Lord Parthasarathy.
The crew/rowers will be accorded a customary reception at the temple ghats and will be escorted to the temple premises with the accompaniments of traditional percussion.
The maximum number of Vallasadya to be offered has been fixed at 15 on a daily basis to avoid overcrowding.
The mega mass feast, Ashtami-Rohini Vallasadya, would be held on the Sri Krishna Janmashtami day on September eight.
The Temple is situated on the banks of river Pampa here.
The ritualistic feast is being organised by the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom (PSS) in association with the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), the temple administrative body of the State Government. (UNI)
