Protest march turns violent

The protest march taken out by Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student organisation of ruling Congress, to the Pariyaram Medical College (PMC) following the controversy over a PG Seat admission to a relative of CPI(M) leader E P Jayarajan and demanding to dismiss the Director of Board, turned violent today.
The march was organised by the Kannur district unit of KSU. It was inaugurated by KSU state president V S Joy.

About 250 KSU activists attended the march, which started from Embetta at 1130 hrs. Police team led by Narcotic Cell DySP P C Babu blocked the march by using barricades but some students broke the barricade and threw stones at 1200 hrs following which the police used water cannon to disperse the mob. However, no one was injured, police said.

KSU district president Sudheep James presided the function.

To a question to M V Jayarajan, Chairman of PMC, at a press conference here, said nothing was illegal in the admission given to K Jiljith, the brother of the daughter-in-law of Ms Jayarajan, MLA.
