
National Innovation council member secretary R Gopalakrishnan passes away

Tiruvalla: R Gopalakrishnan, member-secretary of the National Innovation Council, died in his ancestral home at Kavumbhagom in Tiruvalla late Monday night following complications from renal failure.
Fifty-seven-year-old Gopalakrishnan, a 1979 batch IAS officer belonging to the Madhya Pradesh cadre, was formerly Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office. As a key official in the PMO office, he had played an important role in several national-level development initiatives. He was ailing for sometime. He is survived by his wife, Sudha and two daughters, Amulya and Aditi.
He bagged the first International Commonwealth gold award in 1998 for successfully implementing Education guarantee project in Madhya Pradesh. He was having charge of departments like planning commission, HRD, health and family welfare and housing.
He was also working as in-charge of Prime Minister's council on climate changes. PR Ramesh, political editor, Economic Times is his brother.
