Posted on: 16 Apr 2012
Kochi: The CBI on Monday arrested DySP N Abdul Rasheed in connection with the attack case against Mathrubhumi Kollam reporter VB Unnithan. The DYSP was held exactly one year after the incident happened. The arrest was made by a team led by CBI additional SP Jayakumar. At present Rasheed is acting as crime branch NRI cell DySP. He is also acting as state president of Kerala police services officers association.
Police found that Rasheed was part of the controversy. In the case police had held another crime branch DySP Santhosh Nair and goon Container Santhosh earlier. Container Santhosh said in court that Rasheed and Sathosh Nair fooled him into the case.
Unnithan was attacked on April 16, 2011 at 9.30 pm when he was on his way back home from Mathrubhumi office. After sustaining serious injuries, Unnithan was under treatment for two months.
It is learnt that the attack was carried out for his reports on the unholy nexus between higher police officials and goonda teams in Kollam. Later with KUWJ and Mathrubhumi strongly taking up the attack case, it was shifted to the crime branch and later to CBI.
